What MyLoci Does
MyLoci is a personal home inventory app that helps you track where things are in your home, storage, garage, and other spaces. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
What Data We Collect
- Inventory data — building names, room names, item names, categories, locations, notes, quantities, and estimated values you enter into the app
- Photos — photos you take or select from your photo library to attach to items
- App preferences — settings and category names stored locally on your device
- Usage counters — a local count of AI identification scans used this month, stored only on your device
Camera and Photo Library Access
MyLoci requests access to your camera and photo library solely to let you photograph items in your inventory. Photos are stored locally on your device and synced to your personal iCloud account.
When you use the AI identification feature, a compressed copy of your photo is sent to our secure proxy server to identify the item. The photo is not stored on our servers and is not used for any purpose other than identification.
AI Item Identification
When you use the camera to identify an item, MyLoci sends a compressed version of your photo to a secure proxy server operated by Cloudflare. The proxy forwards it to Claude AI from Anthropic for identification.
- Photos sent for AI identification are not stored on our servers
- Anthropic processes the image to identify the item and returns the result
- Anthropic's privacy policy applies to data processed by their API — see anthropic.com/privacy
- The AI feature requires an internet connection — it is never used offline
- When offline, MyLoci uses on-device machine learning (Apple's CoreML) which processes photos entirely on your device
iCloud and Data Sync
MyLoci uses Apple's CloudKit to sync your inventory across your Apple devices. Your data is stored in your personal iCloud account — not on MyLoci's servers.
- Your inventory data is stored in your private iCloud database
- MyLoci cannot access your iCloud data
- Apple's privacy policy governs iCloud storage — see apple.com/privacy
- The app works fully offline — iCloud sync happens when connectivity is available
Face ID and Touch ID
MyLoci uses Apple's LocalAuthentication framework to protect your inventory with Face ID or Touch ID. Your biometric data never leaves your device and is never accessible to MyLoci.
Authentication is handled entirely by iOS — MyLoci only receives a yes/no result. We never see, store, or transmit your biometric data.
Data We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect your name, email address, or any account information
- We do not track your location
- We do not serve ads or share data with advertisers
- We do not sell your data to third parties
- We do not use analytics SDKs or tracking frameworks
- We do not collect crash data or usage analytics
Data Retention and Deletion
Your inventory data is stored on your device and in your personal iCloud account. Deleting the app removes all local data. To remove iCloud data, go to iCloud settings and remove MyLoci from your iCloud account.
Photos sent for AI identification are not retained by our proxy server or by Anthropic beyond the time needed to process the request.
Children's Privacy
MyLoci is designed for users 13 years of age and older, consistent with Apple's App Store guidelines. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of MyLoci after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
